About the Community Hall

MARKET LAVINGTON COMMUNITY HALL MANAGEMENT TRUST has been set up to build a new Community Hall, to replace the one built by the village in 1907. After a great deal of hard work, some of it ill starred, this fine community scheme is now being re-drafted to meet the modern day needs of a busy population.

The Trust is very fortunate to have a prime site available for the Community Hall - the 2.2 acre site commands the entrance to the village centre from the south west. The site slopes down from St Mary's Church to the main road that runs through the village, enjoying views over the rooftops and farmland to the edge of Salisbury Plain.

The site was purchased by the Parish Council for recreational purposes, with the new Community Hall in mind. The Trust will lease the land from the Parish Council at an appropriate time as the project progresses.

The Trust is now looking towards a design that will provide high quality, flexible space for a variety of uses, at a cost which reflects the funding that we feel is potentially available for the project. The main hall will be suitable for a variety of uses, including art, theatre, sport, dancing and meetings etc. The building will also provide smaller multi-purpose rooms, while there are also plans for the village library and a youth centre to be incorporated into the Community Hall building. The architect is currently advising us and drawing up plans.

This is an area of the Trust's activities that is moving forward very quickly at the moment, and this Web site will be updated whenever there are significant developments. At present (winter 98/99) the Trust is assessing the size and shape of the main hall and the various other spaces within the Community Hall, and we are also liaising with other village organisations and drawing up a business plan in preparation for a fundraising campaign both within and outside the village.
